Perhaps it would be clearer to show the logical errors with The Secret by giving examples that disprove the "law of attraction."

  • Did O.J. Simpson get off because he had a positive attitude? Absurd!
  • Did all of the victims in an airplane disaster have bad thoughts—each and every one of them? And it is only when they all have bad thoughts that the planes crash? Then shouldn't plane crashes be inversely proportional to some exponential expression based on the number of passengers? Absurd!
  • I guess a lot of Jews had bad attitudes in Europe during WW2, except for in England where their attitude was just fine.
  • And the greatest example of all, like so many of these theories, is gambling. The greatest gamblers of all would be those with the greatest attitudes. But what we actually see is that the most successful gamblers have the most skill and make the best plays. And some have terrible attitudes. And notice that nobody has managed to get enough good fortune with a good attitude to be able to beat negative expectation games like craps and baccarat in the long term.
